We began by transporting emigrants to the "New World", then served as a bridge for the emerging global trading
sector and today offer worldwide container transport services and luxury cruises. Hapag-Lloyd is one of the leading
and most innovative companies in shipping. In our over 150-year history, we have continually responded to technical
and market challenges and gone on to develop solutions for our customers. We regard the ongoing globalisation of
the economy as an opportunity to be seized, just as much as the continuing advance of information technology.
We owe our success to our customer orientation, quality awareness and highly motivated staff. Our services are
based on the successful international cooperation of many people, so we are basically cosmopolitan in our approach.

Environmental protection is a keynote of Hapag-Lloyd's corporate philosophy. Our environmental protection guide-
lines formulated at the beginning of 1996 document our commitment to the cause of environmental protection and
the standards we expect to be upheld by all our employees.
In 2003, Germanischer Lloyd certified the quality and environmental management of Hapag-Lloyd, which is a
guarantee of our awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
