| 01.07.04 LONDON, UK (01 July 2004) - CP Ships Limited announced today that its containership fleet is in compliance with the vessel security requirements mandated by the United Nations International Maritime Organization. The International Ship and Port Security Code, which came into effect today, establishes a framework for enhancing port and vessel security on a consistent basis worldwide. It requires all ships and port facilities to have in place security plans for three levels of alert ranging from normal to high. The code was adopted by IMO member states in December 2002. CP Ships has established such plans for all of its owned and chartered ships, each of which has been issued an International Ship Security Certificate. Also, its Montreal Gateway Terminals, among Canada's largest marine container operations, has been certified for compliance. About 90% of CP Ships volume moves through port facilities where compliance has been confirmed. It continues to review port facilities where compliance is still pending. Further information on the ISPS Code can be found on the IMO website, www.imo.org. -ends- |
