04 Dec 2000 Closer cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Süd
In addition to jointly operating services to the South American West Coast and the Caribbean, Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Süd will now also cooperate offering services to the South American East Coast. The shipping lines are also examining possibilities for further joint ventures.

18 Sep 2000 Hapag-Lloyd names another containership
Hapag-Lloyd is steadily expanding its fleet and will commission a total of seven 4,900 TEU newbuildings in 2000. The fourth containership in this series was named the "Rotterdam Express" in Rotterdam today.

28 Aug 2000 Singapore Express enters service - Hapag-Lloyd expands its fleet
Hapag-Lloyd plans to continue to achieve strong growth in container transport. On August 28th 2000 the "Singapore Express" will be integrated into the fleet as the fifth of seven 4,900 TEU newbuildings introduced this year.

Container transport on the North Atlantic is growing in both directions. From August Hapag-Lloyd and its Grand Alliance partners will offer an improved service structure and additional departures.

19 May 2000 Twins for Hapag-Lloyd
The two Hapag-Lloyd newbuildings "Bremen Express" and "Tokyo Express" were named today in Ulsan, Korea. They can each carry 4,890 standard containers. Hapag-Lloyd will increase its fleet from 25 to 29 vessels by the end of 2000.

20 Apr 2000 North-East Passage - No alternative (yet)
The subject of the North-East Passage has again been raised by British oceanographers. Although this sea route is considerably shorter, it can be negotiated only a few months a year and does not represent a viable option for liner shipping.

19 Apr 2000 Grand Alliance now present on all East/West routes
The members of the Grand Alliance will start a joint service on the North Atlantic this summer. The consortium will thus be represented on all global East-West routes.

The annual general meeting gave its approval to the gratifying annual accounts and proposed dividend as well as the portfolio restructuring. The executive board is confident that with high investment and profit-oriented growth the group will put in another good performance this year.
