Tatiana Schulte 002N – Burnt Pine Longicorn Beetle
08 Feb 2010
Hapag-Lloyd (Australia) Pty Ltd informs about the AQIS action last weekend
We wish to advise that the Tatiana Schulte 002N has been requested by AQIS (Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) to return to New Zealand prior to arrival or discharge in Australia. The vessel was originally due into Sydney, Australia on February 5 and into Melbourne, Australia on the February 8. The cause of the urgent schedule amendment is due to the discovery of the Burnt Pine Longicorn Beetles on board the vessel. As this organism is a potential threat to Australia's environment and commercial interests, the Tatiana Schulte was instructed under section 74D of the Quarantine Act to leave Australian territorial waters prior to its arrival. The vessel operators have advised that the Tatiana Schulte 002N will return to New Zealand to remove the organism from the vessel. A new revised operating schedule for the vessel is under review.
We will advise details of the plan for the movement of Southbound and Westbound cargo into Australia and for export cargo scheduled to connect to the Northbound voyage once advised by the vessel operator.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter which is necessary as part of biosecurity risk management for Australia. Should you have any more questions, please free feel to contact our Customer Service Department on:
