Introduction of SMD surcharge - North America to China (PRC) effective May 1, 2010
The current China (PRC) 24 hour Advanced Customs Manifest Regulation requires carriers to submit advance manifest data to China (PRC) Customs for all shipments destined to China (PRC). To recover the systems-related and administrative costs associated with this requirement, Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a Security Manifest Surcharge (SMD) with effect May 1, 2010 for all shipments from North America destined to China (PRC). The amount of the SMD surcharge will be USD 30 per bill of lading
