User Guide: Import Customs

Select a document from the selection box, if more than one document exists for the shipment. Initially, the first document from the list is chosen and the customs details are shown below.

According to the shipment routing different customs systems can be relevant and listed. The complete layout of the screen and the information shown adjusts accordingly to the selected customs systems:

  1. European customs information
  2. US / Canadian customs information

 

Screen area: Search Criteria

In the first selection box you can directly select the Bill of Lading number for which you want to see customs information. The selection box is available for those cases where several documents exist.

In the second selection box you may choose from different customs systems distinguishing between 'European Union', 'USA' and 'Canada'.

European customs

General

If the European vessel leg touches several customs relevant ports, you may reach all customs information by using 'Next port' and 'Previous port'. The last operative port of discharge is automatically preselected.

Additional information is posted above the customs table.

Berth

Name of the corresponding port terminal

Vessel no. (Port authorities) - Export

This number identifies the export call of the vessel in this port within the voyage and is given by the port authorities or port communities.

Vessel no. (Port authorities) - Export

This number identifies the import call of the vessel in this port within the voyage and is given by the port authorities or port communities.

Vessel no. (Customs)

This number identifies the call of the vessel in this port within the voyage and is given by the customs.

Table

The customs table is container based.  

Table Column: Customs Reference

The Customs Reference may contain different customs numbers (shown together with the type of the number) for one container.

The customs numbers are used by customs to identify a customs process. The number can follow diverse patterns in the different countries.

Table Column: Status

Transmission status in the customs process between HL and customs, normally until the cargo is released by customs.

Table Column: Status Date

Date of last Status information

Table Column: Cargo item no.

Identifying number of the corresponding cargo item

Table Column: Short Description

Cargo item description or (if not available) the cargo description for further identification.

Buttons: Previous / Next port

Use these buttons to get more customs information on other European ports.

US / Canadian customs

Table Column: Transfer Status

  • A: additional transmitted to customs 
  • AB: arrival by MTD transmitted to customs 
  • AV: arrival by V-no. transmitted to customs 
  • C: change transmitted to customs 
  • D: cancellation transmitted to customs 
  • EB: exportation by MTD transmitted to customs 
  • O: original transmitted to customs 
  • R: release message from customs 
  • X: rejection message from customs

Table Column: Entered Quantity

Quantity of packages that are reported by customs to have a new release status.

Table Column: Customs Reference

Table Column: Status

Transmission status in the customs process between HL and customs, normally until the cargo is released by customs.

The code for an address where cargo is moved in bond.

Screen area: Customs Information

These customs details are only relevant and shown for US / Canadian customs procedures.

Customs procedure

Type or category of customs clearing process that is applied to the documents or containers. 

Example: IT = immediate transportation[...] 

Clearance Location and Final Destination

Location of customs clearance and final destination of the transport.

Manifested and Released Quantities

Total number of packages that have been transmitted to and released by customs.

Scac Code

Key that is used by customs to identify a customs process.
