Mexican Inland Situation: NOM – 087

This NOM will regulate the maximum time that a driver can drive during the day. The basic points that will be observed are:

• Maximum driving time per day: 14 hours.
• A mandatory rest of 30 minutes every 5 hours of driving.
• A minimum rest of 8 hours every 14 hours of driving (in a period of 24 hrs.).
• All these requirements needs to be registered in a logbook that the driver always has to carry with him.

The main impact this new regulation will have in the Industry is a lack of Drivers specialized in the movement of containerized cargo, as well as an increase in the transit times for routes longer than 600 kilometers.
