Canada and USA incl. Cross-border – Inland Fuel Surcharge for Truck, Rail, and Combined Rail Moves

With effect from January 1, 2021 Hapag-Lloyd will update the Fuel Surcharge for Intermodal Moves that involve Rail, Combined Rail, or Carrier Haulage Trucking under Carrier agreement within the Canada and United States (including Cross-border) as follows:

Charges for Exports (FOI) and Imports (FDI)

Data for fuel surcharge adjustments is the Weekly U.S. No 2 Diesel Retail Prices (Dollars per Gallon) which is available at: U.S. Energy Information Administration
The initial Diesel Price baseline is $2.41, which is the average for Sep, Oct, and Nov 2021.

For Rail

At the current level of Diesel prices, our Fuel Surcharge amount would be $16 per container starting January 1, 2021. Any increase in diesel prices from one quarter to the next of more than ± 10 Cents will lead to a ± $6 change in FOI/FDI per Container. If the quarterly average increases by less than $0.10 from the baseline, the surcharge will not change.

For Carrier Haulage Trucking

At the current level of Diesel prices, our Fuel Surcharge amount would be $12 per container starting January 1, 2021. Any increase in diesel prices from one quarter to the next of more than ± 10 Cents will lead to a ± $4 change in FOI/FDI per Container. If the quarterly average increases by less than $0.10 from the baseline, the surcharge will not change.

For Combined Rail
At the current level of Diesel prices, our Fuel Surcharge amount would be $28 per container starting January 1, 2021. Any increase in diesel prices from one quarter to the next of more than ± 10 Cents will lead to a ± $10 change in FOI/FDI per Container. If the quarterly average increases by less than $0.10 from the baseline, the surcharge will not change.
The first quarterly update to will be on April 1, 2021 based on average prices for latest published full three months of history (Dec – Feb).
