The “Hong Kong Express” has been operating with a so-called exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) since October. This exhaust gas cleaning system removes sulphur and soot particles from the ship’s flue gases and is another way – in addition to the use of low-sulphur fuel – to comply with the new IMO regulations that will come into force on 1 January 2020. Hapag-Lloyd will be outfitting 10 of its ships with an exhaust gas cleaning system.
