Canadian Pacific Rail Road – Network Shutdown Due To Strike Notice

Further to our Customer Info of April 18, CPRR has commenced and will continue to execute a safe and structured shutdown of its train operations in Canada due to a widespread union workers strike effective 0001 Saturday, April 21, 2018. As a result, it is understood that CPRR has now imposed an official ban for shipments routing to and from CPRR Canadian locations to be effective 0001, Saturday, April 21, 2018. This ban applies to:

• All shipments originating in Canada which are billed to any Canadian or US destinations
• All shipments originating in the United States which are billed to any Canadian destinations
• CPRR can rescind the ban at any time.

The following lanes are served by CPRR and will be impacted if a strike does occur:

• Between Port of Montreal and Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis
• Between Port of Vancouver and Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Regina, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis
• Between Port of New York rail and Montreal, Toronto.

At this point, it does not appear that the following lanes will be impacted:

• All of Halifax
• Between Port of Montreal and Saskatoon, Indianapolis, Calgary, Halifax
• Between Port of Vancouver and Saskatoon, Indianapolis, Memphis

Export Loads will continue to be processed into the CP Network at this time. The gates for all ramps will continue per published operating schedules until further advised.

We highly recommend that import containers which have arrived at CP ramps prior to April 21 be picked up. This will help keep CP ramps fluid during a potential labor action, as well as avoid any delays in accessing the import cargo during a labor action.

Customers are invited to switch their containers to a CY move and make their own inland arrangements. Hapag-Lloyd will waive the Diversion Fee and apply the applicable CY rate.

If containers are already gated in to the CP Rail network, they will be inaccessible during the strike should it happen.

Please note that we need to inform you that any additional costs such as, but not limited to detention, demurrage, storage and waiting time due to the strike action will be for account of the cargo.

We regret the inconvenience caused and we will provide further updates as soon as they become available. As you can appreciate, however, this remains a fluid situation caused by circumstances well beyond our control.
