Referring our CustomerNEWS dated April 1, 2020 please see below clarification on the application of freetime.
Hapag-Lloyd shall extend the freetime on all Hapag-Lloyd containers as follows:
Any container accruing detention for the period from March 22, 2020 - April 14, 2020 (both days inclusive) shall be exempt from detention. This freetime will be over and above your existing contractual freetime, and is a onetime gesture to our valued customers.
As mentioned in our previous communication, this applies to carrier equipment detention only and to cargo cleared and waiver requested within April 2020.
This is a manual process and will not reflect automatically in the invoice. In case you are eligible for a waiver, please send us a waiver request on the following email addresses.
Below are of examples, which demonstrate how this will work:
Example 1: A container discharges on March 23, 2020, having 7 days contractual free time.
As per the updated guidelines, the free time would end on April 21, 2020. (March 23, 2020 – April 14, 2020 as blanket freetime plus April 15, 2020 – April 21, 2020 as contractual freetime).
Detention charges will be applicable from April 22, 2020.
Example 2: A container discharges on March 15, 2020, having 7 days contractual free time.
As per the updated guidelines, the free time would end on April 14, 2020 (March 15, 2020 – March 21, 2020 as contractual freetime plus March 22, 2020 – April 14, 2020 as blanket freetime). Detention charges will be applicable from April 15, 2020.
We urge you to arrange the timely movement of your import and export containers to minimize the potential costs as well as to ease the congestion and capacity issues, which could be experienced at various ICDs, CFS’ and Terminals.
