Shipping between North Europe & Mediterranean to Canada? Here's a Low Water Surcharge update

If you're shipping between North Europe* and the Mediterranean** to Canada, here's an update that might impact your cargo planning. The St. Lawrence River water levels have decreased considerably, with latest forecasts by the Canadian Coast Guard predicting further reductions. We therefore would like to inform you that with effect from 14 October 2024, Hapag-Lloyd will implement a Low Water Surcharge for all cargo moving via the port of Montreal as follows:

  • USD 150 per TEU

For your reference, the geographical scope of this is explained below:

*North Europe: United Kingdom, Germany, Benelux, France, Hungary, Czech, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Poland, Baltic States, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Slovakia.
**Mediterranean: Iberia, Italy, Fos, North Africa, Levant, Adriatic, Turkey, Greece and Black Sea

We reserve the right to increase these levels on short notice, should water levels decline beyond current forecast levels.
