Certificados

Responsibility is our tradition: In 1994 Hapag-Lloyd was the first shipping company who had certified all its worldwide activities according to ISO quality standards. By 1996 binding environmental guidelines were formulated.  In 2003 a certification according to environmental standards was added to the already existing ISO quality standard. Both systems were combined to our integrated Quality and Environmental Management System (ISO 9001 + ISO 14001) and since then have continuously been updated. Our ISO certification includes all activities of Hapag-Lloyd's worldwide organisation.

Hapag-Lloyd calculates carbon emissions for all owned and chartered container vessels by using the methodology developed by Clean Cargo. The CO2 as well as SOx emission data have been verified by DNV. For further information please read our 2023 verification statement below.

Since 1997 all our new ships receive an Environmental Passports for highest environmental standards. It will be issued for measures carried out voluntarily which help to improve maritime environmental protection.

Hapag-Lloyd has qualified its fleet in accordance with IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) and the corresponding International Energy Efficiency Certificate (IEEC).

These certificates help to reduce emissions from international shipping by energy efficiency measures, ensure compliance with mandatory regulations and support our green approach - also proven by issuing these certificates before they became mandatory in 2013. Already in 2012, Hapag-Lloyd became the first shipping company in the world to have its entire own-managed fleet certified in accordance with the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) bearing in mind that the EEDI is obligatory for newbuildings (since 2013) only.

Hapag-Lloyd equips all vessels with an inventory of hazardous materials (IHM).

The IHM is a certified record which details all of the materials built in to a vessel which may pose a threat to health or to the environment. An up-to-date IHM will enable all these materials to be located and disposed of safely. This ensures that vessels are recycled in a safe and environmentally friendly way. The IHM must be updated if any changes are made to the vessel.

Our information security management system has been externally certified by datenschutz cert according to ISO 27001 and additionally audited according to ISO 27701. Our ISO 27001 certificate is valid until December 16, 2025.

In order to counteract the various dangers that occur when working on the open sea, comprehensive safety measures are needed. Fleet Management’s occupational safety management system was certified in accordance with ISO 45001:2018.

This certification represents the safety of our employees, as well as smooth on-board workflows that our customers can rely on.

The certificate is valid until March 5, 2028.

Classification society DNV has awarded Hapag-Lloyd the DNV Excellence 5 Star Award for its use of international management systems to enhance its quality, safety, and environmental standards. Hapag-Lloyd was the first container shipping line to be certified with the Award in 2007 and has maintained compliance ever since.Through the implementation of international management system standards, we not only adhere to international legal requirements, but when innovatively and conscientiously utilized, can be used to continuously optimize and enhance the safety, environmental compatibility and operational performance of our ships.

Hapag-Lloyd complies with the EU Energy Efficiency Directive: The European Union would like to increase energy efficiency in its member states. A corresponding EU directive (2012/27/EU) was transposed into national law in Germany by the Energy Services Act (EDL-G). This act requires large companies in Germany to conduct energy audits. Hapag-Lloyd accordingly conducted the DIN EN 16247 energy audits for its offices in 2015 and 2019. In the course of these audits, opportunities for reducing energy consumption were identified and documented at various locations.

Hapag-Lloyd has been awarded a silver medal in recognition of its sustainability achievements in March 2024.

Hapag-Lloyd received a B which is in the Management band. This is the same as the Europe regional average of B, and higher than the Marine transport sector average of B-.
