A milestone on our way to a climate-neutral fleet: Ship Green provides more sustainable operations for Hapag-Lloyd and its customers via emissions avoidance. Find out exactly how the additional service works and how it benefits your climate goals!
With the rollout of Ship Green, Hapag-Lloyd makes climate-friendly services available to all customers anywhere, anytime and without requiring a long-term commitment, through a digital and standardized process. Ship Green is a self-service tool placed in the Online Business Suite. It can be easily accessed via the Additional Services section or the Ship Green landing page, as well as the Sustainability landing page, and the Navigator.
Henrik Schilling, Managing Director Global Commercial Development“With Ship Green, we invite all our customers to avoid emissions by proactively choosing their own contribution to climate-neutral shipping.”
Ship Green is tailored to every customer’s requirements: Users can choose from three different options to purchase either 25, 50 or 100 % emissions avoidance for the ocean leg of their shipments. The percentage and corresponding fee can be specifically aligned with every customer’s decarbonization agenda. It can be booked for single shipments.
How it works
To offer climate-friendly container transport services, Hapag-Lloyd uses biodiesel that adds less greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than conventional marine fuel oil and is thus less harmful for the climate. While biofuel is physically utilized on selected Hapag-Lloyd vessels only, Hapag-Lloyd offers the resulting emissions avoidance for ocean leg container transports across all services through the Book and Claim approach.
Every customer has the option to add Ship Green as an additional service to their existing bookings. It is available for all bookings, no matter if they were placed via EDI, Online Business Suite, iNTTRA, or any other channel. You can use the Ship Green tool, enter the booking number, and then choose to avoid either 25, 50 or 100 % of the transport's ocean leg emissions. Alternatively, you can use the Navigator, search for a confirmed shipment, and make your choice.
After a shipment with Ship Green has been loaded onto the vessel, all customers will receive their invoice, in which the Ship Green fee is displayed as an additional item. Additionally, they receive a Ship Green Declaration at the end of every quarter for all shipments in the respective period. This declaration contains information about the total amount of emissions avoided for these transports through Ship Green.
