Americas Service (USW) – MV “Dublin Express” Oil Spillage

On the evening on March 26, 2019 MV “DUBLIN EXPRESS” encountered very heavy weather. At the time, the vessel was enroute to New York from Florida.

During routine cargo operations at Global Container Terminal-New York on March 28, oil was discovered alongside the vessel. Immediate notifications were made to environmental responders as well as the appropriate authorities, including the USCG. Upon further investigation it was determined that oil escaped from a hole in one of the vessel’s fuel tanks located beneath the waterline. The hole was temporarily sealed that night and permanent repairs are currently ongoing. Hapag-Lloyd and environmental responders continue to work very closely with the authorities to ensure that any environmental impact is avoided or minimized.

Currently, it is expected that the repairs to the hole will take place tomorrow April 2, 2019 at which point cargo operations can resume. However, we will keep you updated as additional information becomes available.

If you have any questions about the status of your cargo, please contact our Customer Service staff.
