Shipping between South Europe and Canada? A Low Water Surcharge is coming up

If you're shipping between South Europe & Canada, here's an update that might impact your cargo planning. The St. Lawrence River water levels have decreased considerably, with latest forecasts by the Canadian Coast Guard predicting further reductions.

We therefore would like to inform you that with effect from July 15, 2025 (tariffing date), Hapag-Lloyd will implement a Low Water Surcharge for all cargo moving from South Europe to/via the port of Montreal as follows:

Mediterranean Canada Service (MCA) - westbound

  • USD 150 per TEU
