Here's an update about faster cargo release with Sea Waybills in the Middle East & Africa*

*valid only for shipments where booking office is Middle East and Africa

General Africa Middle East and Indian Subcontinent

At Hapag-Lloyd, we continuously strive to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and provide seamless digital solutions for your shipping needs.

We would like to draw your attention to the benefits of using the Seaway Bill (SWB) release option instead of the Original Bill of Lading (OBL), wherever applicable.

Many customers request to change from Original to Sea Waybill after vessel sailing but hesitate due to concerns about amendment fees.

To support you, we would like to emphasize about the amendment fee structure for the correction type “Original to Sea Waybill” for customers in the Middle East and Africa region, under the following conditions:

  • You may change the document type from OBL to SWB without any Manifest Amendment Fee even after vessel sailing
  • You may still change the Document Type from OBL to SWB
  • No Manifest Amendment Fee will apply
  • It must be surrendered at our counter, and a surrender fee will apply
  1. Log in at hapag-lloyd.com
  2. Go to Documentation → BL Draft Approval
  3. Scroll to Document Issuance and change Document Type from Original BL to Sea Waybill
  • Your Bill of Lading will remain as an Original until payment is completed
  • If you have requested a Seaway Bill (SWB) during Shipping Instruction, this will not be treated as a correction
  • Once payment is completed, the Seaway Bill can still be released
  • The first correction is free
  • If a BL correction has already been requested, the Manifest Correction Fee will apply to any subsequent change of document type (OBL → SWB)
  • As per government regulatory guidelines, Seaway Bill (SWB) or surrendered BLs are not permitted in the name of Freight Forwarders or NVOCCs.
  • Faster, smoother cargo release
  • Cost savings on printing, courier and handling
  • Lower risk of delay or lost documents
