On course for Rotterdam and Hamburg for the first time

The impressive ship was recently christened in a festive ceremony in South Korea and put into service by Hapag-Lloyd. With a length of around 400 metres and a breadth of 61 metres, the "Manila Express" offers an enormous capacity of 23,660 TEU. She had her first port call in Rotterdam, where a successful LNG-bunkering took place.

What is remarkable about the "Manila Express" is the technology installed in it. It is part of the Hamburg Express class: like the "Berlin Express", it is one of the largest container ships under the German flag with a cargo capacity of 23,660 TEU each. At the same time, the "Manila Express" and her 11 sisters stand for state-of-the-art innovation and technology. The 12 large container ships of the Hamburg Express class help us to achieve our Net-Zero target by 2045, because the new class of ships can run on LNG as well as on future non-fossil fuels such as bio-methane or e-methane thanks to their dual-fuel technology.
