Whistleblowing System

Hapag-Lloyd nurtures a ‘Speak Up’ culture and encourages its employees, suppliers and anyone within or outside Hapag-Lloyd to support this approach by reporting any actual or potential non-compliant, or illegal behavior. Hapag-Lloyd has an internal Whistleblower and Non-Retaliation Policy in place to create a trusted system with adequate protection for anyone who wants to share a Compliance-Related Concern, which ensures that all reported concerns are being addressed in an objective, fair, timely and confidential manner.

Actual or potential Compliance-Related Concerns can include, but are not limited to bribery, corruption, competition law violations, fraud, money laundering, sanctions, data breaches, discrimination and harassment, any violation of human rights, social and environmental obligations.

Speak Up Line

Speak Up Line is an independent, secure reporting channel available to all external and internal parties*, which allows for anonymous reporting**.

* If you are an employee of Hapag-Lloyd, we encourage reporting concerns through the channel you are most comfortable with, such as your supervisor, local or regional compliance officer, Global Compliance Team or the Speak Up Line.

** Speak Up Line allows for anonymous reporting subject to local whistleblowing rules and regulations. Please be informed that local law might require revealing the identity of persons involved in the reporting of an incident. In particular, it might be required to reveal the identity of the reporting party if the report was not made anonymously. Such a duty to disclose information relating to the whistleblower may particularly follow from a statutory duty to inform the data subject under Art. 14 of the EU GDPR, or other applicable data protection laws.

Maritime Anti-Corruption Network

Hapag-Lloyd has joined the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), a global business network founded in 2011 with over 100 members working to combat corruption in the maritime industry.

Shipping faces corruption risks due to operations across jurisdictions and interactions with government officials, which can cause delays and threaten crew and ship safety, as well as legal and commercial consequences.

MACN promotes good corporate practices to tackle bribery and corruption, collaborating with governments and organizations like the UNDP to address root causes. Its collective action projects improve port call handling and interactions with officials, while enabling best practice sharing among members.

Hapag-Lloyd’s membership underscores its commitment to fighting corruption in the maritime sector.
