Civil Unrest in South Africa – Detention and Demurrage Update

The unrest in South Africa continues to affect all of us as well as businesses across the country. Our operations are impacted and some of our depots and terminals are either closed or operating with the minimum staff requirements.

In connection with the unrest and possible impact to your cargo planning, we would like to support our customers during this difficult period and therefore will implement the following measures:

Equipment Detention and Demurrage - Exports and Imports

For the period of July 12, 2021 – TO until ports/terminal are functional OR July 19, 2021, whichever is earlier, Hapag-Lloyd will not invoice detention charges. Please note that any demurrage / port charges might be applied independently by Transnet.

We will continue to work together with you during these challenging times and value your support as always.

If you should require additional information, please contact our customer service team at your location who will guide you based on your individual situation.
