Here's an update on Operational Interruptions at Vancouver, Canada

Recent floods, landslides and mudslides in British Columbia have shut down key highway and rail routes into and out of Vancouver.  Inland operations servicing the Port of Vancouver are significantly impacted by these recent weather events.

Rail disruptions

  • Both CN and CP Rail lines are closed at this time into and out of Vancouver.
  • CP Rail is experiencing a track outage on the Cascade subdivision, north of Hope, BC.
  • CP Rail gencar (protected reefer service) to or from Vancouver is currently on hold until further notice.
  • All CP Rail ramps continue to accept export reefers.  The situation is under review and subject to change
  • CN has made progress in restoring portions of the Yale Subdivision and crews are working to repair rockslide and washout sites on the Ashcroft Subdivision.

Rail repairs by both railways are ongoing.  All rail (intermodal and carload) traffic northbound and eastbound from Vancouver, as well as traffic inbound to Vancouver from east/north of Kamloops continue to be affected by this situation.  A timeframe for re-opening of the rail lines will be known once the damage assessments are complete.

Road disruptions

Flooding has also caused numerous highway closures due to washouts and landslide debris throughout southwestern B.C., including all main routes to the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley regions. Extent of the highway damage is under review and there is currently no timeframe available with regards to completed repairs.

We willl continue to update you on the developments once more details are made available.
