North America: Emergency Operations Charge (EOO/EOD) for Third-Party Feeder Services

Strait of Hormuz Surcharges North America Canada United States of America

Due to ongoing geopolitical developments, fuel prices have increased significantly, impacting feeder operations provided by third-party service providers, including feeder vessels and barges.

In addition to the previously announced Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS), we are now facing explicit charges from our third-party feeder operators. As the EFS covers incremental fuel costs within Hapag-Lloyd-operated services, these additional third-party charges require a separate surcharge.

We will therefore introduce the Emergency Operations Charge (EOO/EOD) to address the operational costs related to third-party feeder services.

The surcharge will be applied as follows:

  • EOO (Origin): Emergency Operations Charge at origin
  • EOD (Destination): Emergency Operations Charge at destination

The applicable surcharge levels are as follows:

To/From Honolulu, Hawaii

  • Per 20' container: USD 140
  • Per 40' container: USD 180
  • Reefer & Special Container: USD 255 per container

To/From Hamilton, Bermuda

  • Per TEU: USD 150

This surcharge will be effective May 22, 2026. The charge will be applied to all container types and will be payable by the sea freight payer. This adjustment reflects the explicit operational cost increases charged by third-party feeder operators.

If you have any questions regarding these updates or their impact on your supply chain, please contact your local Hapag-Lloyd representative.
