North America Service Update: Handling of Shipments to Upper Gulf Ports
Important Service Update
As shared via our NEWS Portal update on March 4, 2026, the current operational and security constraints in the Upper Gulf region have required us to take additional steps to protect cargo, ensure safe equipment positioning, and maintain reliable operations.
As a result, Hapag-Lloyd has implemented an immediate booking stop, until further notice, for all cargo types moving to and from the following locations:
- United Arab Emirates
- Iraq
- Kuwait
- Qatar
- Bahrain
- Sohar, Oman
- Dammam and Jubail, Saudi Arabia
- Yemen
We want to ensure you have clear visibility into how your shipments are being handled during this disruption. Here’s what you can expect:
- Bookings without activity to the affected areas will be cancelled, and you will receive a booking cancellation notice.
- Dry cargo with activity will continue to be loaded where possible to help you avoid potential storage charges in North America.
- Reefer containers with activity will remain at the port for safety reasons. Our team will contact you directly with retrieval instructions; please note that associated costs will be for your account.
- Cargo currently in transit will be temporarily held in Salalah. If conditions require, we may redirect to alternative ports to keep your cargo moving.
- US Flag cargo will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with the US Flag team before any booking is cancelled, ensuring compliance and the best possible outcome for your shipment.
We remain committed to supporting you throughout this evolving situation. Our teams are closely monitoring developments and will continue to assess conditions as they change. Any important updates will be shared promptly via our Live Ticker on our website.
For urgent inquiries, please contact your local Hapag-Lloyd representative. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this period.
