If you're shipping between North Europe & Canada, here's an update that might impact your cargo planning. The St. Lawrence River water levels have decreased considerably, with latest forecasts by the Canadian Coast Guard predicting further reductions.
We therefore would like to inform you that with effect from July 15, 2025 (tariffing date), Hapag-Lloyd will implement a Low Water Surcharge for all cargo moving from North Europe to/via the port of Montreal as follows:
St. Lawrence Cont. Service - Route 1 (AT1) and 2 (AT2) - Westbound
We reserve the right to increase these levels on short notice, should water levels decline beyond current forecast levels.
For your reference, the definition of countries covered in this update is detailed by accessing the geographic scopes.
