Shipping from North Europe to North America and Mexico? Here's an update to our Booking Cancellation Fee

Surcharges North America Europe

We would like to inform you of an adjustment to the Booking Cancellation Fee (BCF) for exports from North Europe to Canada, the United States, and Mexico, effective July 15, 2026.

In recent months, we have experienced an increase in late booking cancellations and "no-show" situations, including containers that are not delivered to the terminal before the applicable cut-off. These situations impact operational planning, equipment utilization, and the efficient allocation of vessel capacity.

To support reliable planning and to protect capacity for customers who deliver cargo on time, we are adjusting the BCF as follows:

Booking Cancellation Fee

  • EUR 500 per container

The applicability rules remain unchanged. The BCF continues to apply per container for shipments within the above scope in the following cases:

  • Cancellation, reduction, or re-booking within five (5) calendar days prior to the booked vessel ETD; or
  • The container is not loaded due to reasons including, but not limited to:
    • Gate-in after the terminal cut-off for merchant haulage containers
    • Missing or incomplete Verified Gross Mass (VGM)
    • Missing or incomplete Dangerous Goods Declaration (DGD)
    • Missing or incomplete Shipping Instructions (SI)
    • Missing customs clearance

All other terms and conditions remain subject to the applicable Hapag-Lloyd tariff and/or service contract.

Should you have any questions regarding this adjustment, please contact your local Hapag-Lloyd Sales representative
