Shipping from North Europe to Montreal? A Low Water Surcharge is coming up

A Low Water Surcharge (LWS) from North Europe to/via Montreal, Canada is coming up. This Low Water Surcharge will apply to all cargo with tariffing date on or after July 16, 2026.

This adjustment follows the current low water levels on the St. Lawrence River and the latest forecasts indicating further reductions.

The details of this surcharge are listed below:

  • USD 150 per TEU
  • Applicable to all container types transported via our AT1 & AT2 services in Westbound direction

Hapag-Lloyd reserves the right to adjust the surcharge level on short notice if water levels decline beyond current forecast levels.
