German Train Drivers’ Union Strike

The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) union called on its members to take nationwide strike action on August 21, 2021. Passenger services and infrastructure will go on strike from August 23, 2021. According to the latest information, the strike measures will end on August 25, 2021, but may be extended or restarted later depending on the agreement reached by the parties. We assume that the strike will bring restrictions to inland operation, especially railway infrastructure and equipment availability, which may also affect your cargo planning.

While this situation is out of our control, please be sure to reach out to your customer service contact at your location to discuss possible solutions for your cargo planning. We apologize for any unavoidable delays or inconveniences occur due to this strike and thank you for understanding that Hapag-Lloyd AG will not be liable for any costs resulting from the strike as stated in the bill of lading’s terms and conditions.

We will continue to keep you updated on any developments when they are made available.
