Port of the month: Callao – One of South America’s most important fishing and trading ports

Together with the capital city and several surrounding districts, Callao forms the Lima metropolitan area, which is home to over 12 million people (as of 2018) . Lima’s old town, which is built like a chessboard, has been a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. But the regions surrounding the city also has a lot to offer. In fact, the entire country is especially famous for pristine natural environments that are hardly imaginable in other countries.
