Vietnam: Updated requirements for charcoal shipments from Vietnam

Regulations Asia Vietnam

We would like to inform you that, with immediate effect, Hapag-Lloyd will require the use of a Thermal Vacuum Blanket for all shipments of Charcoal UN1361, Class 4.2 from Vietnam.

This means that charcoal shipments from Vietnam will only be accepted if the charcoal cargo inside each container is fully enclosed and vacuum packed with a thermal jacket, as confirmed by a vanning survey report issued by a Hapag-Lloyd-nominated surveyor in Vietnam.

The use of Thermal Vacuum Blankets has been successfully tested and helps reduce safety risks, including the risk of fire incidents during transport.

To ensure your shipment can be accepted, please make sure that:

  • The charcoal cargo inside each container is fully enclosed and vacuum packed with a thermal jacket.
  • The thermal jacket is supplied by a Hapag-Lloyd-recommended supplier preferred by the shipper.
  • A vanning survey report is provided for each shipment.
  • The vanning survey report is issued by one of the Hapag-Lloyd-nominated surveyors in Vietnam.
  • All required Dangerous Goods documentation is complete and submitted in line with the applicable IMDG Code requirements.
