The container shipping industry is always evolving, and your business operates across different geographical scopes. Therefore, we would like to share the latest global update on our Marine Fuel Recovery (MFR). MFR applies to all trades and is shown as a separate surcharge on your invoice and Bill of Lading.

Please note that as of July 1, 2026, the updated Q3 Marine Fuel Recovery (MFR) levels will apply. The adjustment reflects the significant increase in bunker prices compared to the Q2 MFR announced on March 1, 2026. As the updated Q3 MFR reflects the current fuel cost environment, the Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) will be discontinued accordingly from the same date.

We are closely monitoring developments related to the situation in the Middle East and the global fuel market. While we are committed to ensuring continued service reliability, unforeseen market developments or further significant increases in energy prices may require additional adjustments.

Hapag-Lloyd remains committed to avoiding any duplicate recovery of the same fuel cost elements. We will continue to review the applicable fuel cost recovery mechanisms and engage closely with our customers.

Consolidated Marine Fuel Recovery (MFR) tables are no longer provided as downloadable files. The latest MFR values are continuously available via the Ocean Tariff Rates and Surcharges page and the Surcharge Finder. If a consolidated file is required, please contact your responsible sales representative.

Surcharge Finder

You will be able to see the new MFR values that are effective for sailings from July 1, 2026, reflected in our Surcharge Finder and are valid until further notice. The MFR calculation for some trade relations takes into consideration the updated fuel prices and distances as an effect of the Cape of Good Hope sailings. Please keep in mind that the FAK base rates as well as Security related surcharges, Peak Season surcharges (if applicable) and Terminal Handling Charges (THCs) can be found here. Other local charges and contingency surcharges may apply.

If you should require more information, please contact our teams at your location, who will be glad to guide you based on your individual situation.
