Shipping to and from Manaus, Brazil? A Low Water Surcharge is coming up

We have been closely monitoring the decreasing water levels in the Amazon Region. According to the “Initial Advisory on the 2026 Dry Season”, issued on July 14, 2026 by the Western Amazon River Authority (Capitania Fluvial da Amazônia Ocidental), the region may experience a more severe dry season than in previous years, with a high probability of these conditions occurring during the second half of September.

As water levels on the Amazonas River continue to decrease, we are implementing a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) to and from the Port of Manaus, Brazil. The LWS is necessary to offset the increased costs and operational complexities associated with navigating the low water conditions on the Amazonas River.

This Low Water Surcharge will apply to all cargo with tariffing date on or after September 12, 2026.

For your reference, kindly find the details of this surcharge are listed below: 

• USD 1,350 per container

The surcharge is applicable to all container types.We will continually monitor the water level on the Amazonas River and adjust the effective date in case the start of the dry season is delayed. In such case, a new announcement will be shared with 30 days' notice.
