Rotterdam: Temporary rail capacity restrictions at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II

Ports & Inland Europe Netherlands (official)

Here’s an update for your cargo planning via APM Terminals Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam.

APM Terminals is expanding and testing its terminal facilities at Maasvlakte II. To support these works safely, the terminal will temporarily adjust the layout between the rail area and the yard. As a result, available rail capacity will be reduced from July 1, 2026, until approximately June 2027.

During this period, please take the following operational impacts into account:

  • Rail capacity is expected to be reduced by around 40%.
  • Rail handling will mainly take place during off-peak hours, from Monday to Friday between 19:00 CEST and 05:00 CEST, and on weekends.
  • Fixed, pre-agreed time slots will apply, with a focus on operational predictability.
  • Flexibility may be limited, and longer lead times may occur.
  • Priority will be given to larger trains. For selected shipments, alternative transport modes or load ports may be used on a case-by-case basis and at short notice.

To support your cargo planning, please arrange rail shipments via Maasvlakte II as early as possible and stay in close contact with your Hapag-Lloyd representative.

We are working closely with the terminal to keep the impact on your cargo as limited as possible.
