For the third time, we invite you to the Albert Ballin Forum Hamburg — an interdisciplinary symposium on war and peace at sea, which will take place on May 12 and 13 at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg.

With this forum, we honor Albert Ballin, who played a defining role in shaping our company. The Hamburg shipowner and director-general of Hapag from 1899 to 1918 is regarded as a driving force behind the first wave of globalization around 1900 and consistently combined economic dynamism with social and political responsibility.

The forum is organized in cooperation with the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR), Hamburg, KLU, the Museum of Hamburg History, the German Port Museum, and Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna. It is conceived as an interdisciplinary academic forum dedicated to reflecting on historical, current, and future processes of globalization. As part of the next forum in May, we will seek answers to the pressing issues of security on the world’s oceans.

On the evening of May 12, we will present the Albert Ballin Research Awards for Globalization Research and the Albert Ballin Prize for Global Action at a separate ceremonial event at Hapag-Lloyd AG.

The conference will be conducted in German, and participation is free of charge. Further information can be found in the program below. We would be delighted if you would register for individual or all program items via this link
