With the launch of our extended liability tool Cargo Shield, we are offering an extra layer of security to our customers when it comes to cargo damage. With our three different options everyone can get the protection they need. One of these customers is the Canadian company Centre Logistique. Their Founder and Managing Director Christopher Lee took time to answer some questions about Cargo Shield and how it is used at Centre Logistique.
Hello Christopher, thanks a lot for agreeing and taking the time to answer some questions about yourself and your usage of Cargo Shield. Let's dive right in!
Centre Logistique is a Canadian-owned freight forwarding and supply chain management company providing tailored logistics solutions globally. Based in Canada we specialize in air, ocean, and road freight, customs brokerage, warehousing, and value-added services such as hazardous cargo handling and time-critical shipments. Our mission is to optimize our clients' supply chains through efficient, reliable, and cost-effective shipping—supported by 24/7 operational availability.
As the Founder and Managing Director, I lead both the strategic vision and day-to-day operations of the company. I remain involved across all key areas—from client relationships and logistics planning to carrier management and compliance—to ensure every solution we deliver reflects our commitment to professionalism, transparency, and results. My goal is to make global shipping seamless, responsive, and worry-free for every client we serve.
We chose Cargo Shield because it provides a simple, built-in way to extend cargo protection beyond standard liability. The ability to secure predefined compensation directly through the carrier helps reduce risk exposure, especially on higher-value shipments, and eliminates the need for additional coordination or external processes.
Our experience has been positive. The option to select Cargo Shield directly through the online booking and quotation tools made the process easy and efficient. It integrated well into our workflow without the need for extra documentation or follow-up, which is appreciated in a fast-paced logistics environment.
The greatest benefit is the ability to access clear, predefined compensation in the event of physical damage or loss. This brings clarity and confidence to our risk planning and allows us to handle claims more quickly, without the delays often associated with traditional claim disputes.
Our motivations were centered on operational efficiency and risk management. Cargo Shield simplifies the claims process, provides transparency in pricing, and ensures that we have additional coverage when handling sensitive or higher-value shipments. It also helps us respond more quickly to incidents that could otherwise disrupt our clients’ supply chains.
Yes, one improvement would be to allow users to enter the total value of goods per container — specifically the sum of the commercial invoice value and freight cost — so that the system can automatically recommend or assign the appropriate Cargo Shield tier. This would help reduce the risk of selecting an incorrect level of coverage and ensure proper alignment with cargo value. It would also be useful if the tool could automatically flag excluded commodities or restricted trade routes in real time, helping users make informed choices during the booking process.
Cargo Shield is a valuable and practical solution that aligns well with the needs of today’s logistics environment. It simplifies cargo protection, improves transparency, and offers peace of mind. We appreciate Hapag-Lloyd’s effort to integrate this service into the digital workflow, and we look forward to continued enhancements that make it even more adaptable for diverse shipping scenarios.
Thanks a lot, Christopher, for these insights and for sharing your thoughts about Cargo Shield.
