The Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG) was founded 175 years ago. To mark this occasion, Hapag-Lloyd AG is organizing the second Albert Ballin Forum Hamburg on May 19 and 20. The event will be held in the Hamburg Museum located at Holstenwall 24, 20355 Hamburg.
By establishing the Albert Ballin Forum and the Albert Ballin Awards, Hapag-Lloyd commemorates the man who made the company great: Albert Ballin. The Hamburg native and shipping company executive, who may be regarded as an engine of the first globalization around 1900, combined commercial vigor with social and political responsibility.
The forum is being organized in collaboration with the Deutsche Hafenmuseum (lit. ‘German port museum’) and the Franz Vranitzky Chair for European Studies at the University of Vienna and sees itself as an interdisciplinary scientific forum dedicated to reflecting on historical, current and future processes of globalization. In its anniversary year, Hapag-Lloyd AG would like to offer scientists the opportunity to develop open and critical perspectives on future global developments on the basis of their research findings.
