For the third time, we invited to the Albert Ballin Forum Hamburg — an interdisciplinary symposium on war and peace at sea, which will take place on May 12 and 13 at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg.

With this forum, we honor Albert Ballin, who played a defining role in shaping our company. The Hamburg shipowner and director-general of Hapag from 1899 to 1918 is regarded as a driving force behind the first wave of globalization around 1900 and consistently combined economic dynamism with social and political responsibility.

The forum 2026 was organized in cooperation with the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR), Hamburg, KLU, the Foundation of Historical Museums Hamburg, the German Port Museum, and Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna. It is conceived as an interdisciplinary academic forum dedicated to reflecting on historical, current, and future processes of globalization. As part of this  forum in May, we seeked answers to the pressing issues of security on the world’s oceans.

On the evening of May 12, we presented the Albert Ballin Research Awards for Globalization Research and the Albert Ballin Prize for Global Action at a separate ceremonial event at Hapag-Lloyd AG.

The conference was conducted in German, and participationwas free of charge. Further information can be found in the program below.
