FAQ

Find answers about apprenticeships and dual study programs at Hapag-Lloyd - from application to training structure - all in one place.

Application information

Before you write your first application, you should ask yourself this question. Of course, this also means that you must inform yourself comprehensively about the job description. The diverse tasks in our company should be taken over by committed and satisfied employees who give their best. School grades only say something about your abilities to a limited extent. We place a lot of emphasis on personal qualities – and would like to get to know you!

Our application process typically starts with your online application. Depending on the position, you may be invited to complete an online test, followed by an interview. The process may vary slightly depending on the role but is designed to give both sides a clear understanding of expectations and fit.

How do I apply? Please send us your application preferably online via our applicant portal. Alternatively, you can also send your application to the following email address: [email protected]

Yes, you can log into the applicant management tool and make the changes yourself.

No problem. In this case, we offer a completely digital application process (including a digital interview). Of course, we would be even more delighted to meet you in person. The advantage for you is that you get a direct impression of our working atmosphere.

We would be delighted if you applied for a vacant apprenticeship and uploaded your documents to the relevant position. You will then take part in our regular selection process. If you have already acquired study content in a field that is relevant to the apprenticeship, this may be of additional interest to us.

Are you interested in an apprenticeship at Hapag-Lloyd and would like to apply?
Please send us your application documents from the following dates:

  • Please send us your application documents from 1 1/2 years before the start of the apprenticeship.

There is no application deadline. You can find vacancies for apprenticeships among our vacancies. As soon as the corresponding training positions are no longer advertised, no more applications will be accepted.

Please submit your complete application including your CV, cover letter, and your most recent school certificates.
Please provide proof of any language skills that are not your native language with a language certificate. Minimum requirement: German C1 and English B2.

We take care to review every application carefully. However, this process can take some time, so we appreciate your patience and understanding. Once we have reviewed your application, we will contact you.

You can apply for a student internship at our company. You should apply for this 1.5 - 1 year before the start of the internship. Unfortunately, short-term applications are not possible for organizational reasons. An internship is therefore not a prerequisite for applying for an apprenticeship at our company.

Diversity means accepting and promoting people in all their differences. Our employees are just as colorful, international, and diverse as our business. We see this diversity and these differences as important values and make every effort to promote them in the best possible way. In this way, we ensure equal opportunities among our employees and strengthen cooperation among them.

Information on the application process

Training begins on August 1 of each year. We start the selection process at the earliest one year before the start of the training. The selection processes for the individual job profiles begin at different times. These typically extend over several months and usually include a recruitment test and, if necessary, an interview. Of course, you will receive a reaction after a test or conversation before the entire procedure is completed.

Thank you for your interest in our company.

  • Why are you interested in this department?
  • What would you like to learn?
  • What questions do you have for us?

Starting Your Apprenticeship

Training starts on August 1 each year.

Yes. Hapag-Lloyd will take care of your registration at a vocational school or university after you have signed your contract.

Hapag-Lloyd does not offer direct support for accommodation. However, during the buddy meeting, future apprentices exchange information about shared apartments and available rooms. This has led to several shared living arrangements in the past. Additionally, there are various online platforms that can help you find accommodation.

We train with the goal of long-term collaboration. After successfully completing your apprenticeship and meeting the required performance levels, there are good opportunities to continue your career with us, including internationally.
