There are moments that all seafarers fondly look back on:

Stepping onto a ship for the first time—a ship that would be your second home for the next few months—steering the ship down the Elbe toward the North Sea as a helmsman or helmswoman, passing through the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal, and seeing the New York skyline for the first time.

If you’d like to experience these moments for yourself and are interested, for example, in how a ship is loaded and unloaded in a state-of-the-art port like Singapore, what tasks a diesel engine with over 90,000 horsepower entails, and what needs to be considered when steering a ship over 300 meters long precisely onto the pier, then a maritime training program is exactly right for you.

Yes, unfortunately, your application cannot be processed without a copy of your certificate of seaworthiness (see also above). You can find more information about the certificate of seaworthiness here.

Training on a ship is unlike any other training environment. You’ll be working side by side with about twenty people—most of whom you won’t know at first—for up to four months. This requires a healthy dose of team spirit and, at times, a thick skin.

Your cover letter should not just be a list of your career history, but rather reflect who you are as a person. The goal is for us to get a sense of exactly what motivates you to pursue this unique training program and how you can apply your strengths here. We’re also interested in your prior experience and social skills, whether that’s a sailing license, restoring vintage motorcycles, or active involvement in a sports club.

About a year before the start date, we review all application materials and schedule the testing process and interviews. You’ll receive a response from us no later than nine months in advance, along with an invitation to an interview or assessment center, if applicable. In some exceptional cases, however, training positions may still be available later on, which is why we encourage you to apply even at short notice.
