How the new Quotation tool works:

  • You can switch the dates on the carousel at the top of the screen. We have highlighted the fastest transit time and the cheapest price for easy reference.
  • Once you decide on a date, you need to choose your preferred option by clicking "Select" on the product card.
  • All the information related to your selection will be displayed on the side panel, including the total price.
  • You can click to see the Price Breakdown of the offer, and even print it at this point.
  • Afte clicking "Next," you will be able to add additional services to your quote.
  • Review the information, and depending on your selection, you can get a quote or you can book right away.

How to Get Your Container Freight Rate

1. Register or Log In

Go to the Online Business Suite, log in, or register  –  and click on “New Quote” in the left-hand side navigation.  

2. Submit the Shipment Details

Enter your details: start and end location, commodities, containers, and validity date. 

3. Choose Your Offer

Compare the offers in a single overview screen and choose the best option for your needs. 

4. Get Your Quote

Customize your quote with our additional services, click "Next" and get your quote.

Quotation Basics

Please check if the "Expires At" date has not been exceeded. Additionally, not all our offers include a booking acceptance guarantee, so please also review the Terms & Conditions of your offer.

You can always book directly after receiving the offer – we will guide you through the process. Alternatively, for selected offers (e.g., Quick Quotes), you can book later as well. You will receive a 12-digit quotation number (e.g. W12345678910) at the end, which you can simply include in your booking request.

FAQs - Search Form

You can use the checkbox in the Container and Commodity Details section, and you will be redirected to the previous Quick Quotes flow to receive an offer.

Currently, this is not possible, but we are working on offering this option in early 2025.

You can edit your search anytime until you book or got a quote by clicking on the little “Edit” icon in the upper right of the side bar on the left. The number of containers (and weight) are only relevant for Quick Quotes Spot, and you cannot change that at a later stage. For Quick Quotes, however, you can proceed to book your desired number of containers in the booking stage.

You can check the box for dangerous goods in the search form and enter additional details. After that, you will receive an offer that you can use for bookings with dangerous goods.

Yes. SOC is available for Quick Quotes. Simply mark the checkbox during the Search and get a quote for your SOC shipments with
Dry, Reefer, Non-Operated Reefer or Tank Containers. Please find more information about our  SOC Procedure .

All container types for which we offer at least one of our products are supported. You can find a drop-down list of these in the search form. Currently, containers from these groups are available: General Purpose, Operating Reefer, Non-Operating Reefer, Open Top in Gauge, Hard Top in Gauge and SOC.

Yes, this is possible.

We offer a variety of special containers. For a quote on special cargo, please use our Special Cargo Quotes tool.

We plan to introduce Controlled Atmosphere as an optional service for operating reefers soon.

This always depends on the routing and the container type. You can see a list of the available commodities in the drop-down menu in the search form. The exact HS codes covered by the commodity can be found via a link or as a list in your quote document. The general definition of "Freight All Kind" can be found here.

No, we calculate the best and available routing for your search request based on the desired start and end location and a few other factors. To receive a specially tailored offer, please contact your local Sales Office.

FAQs - Offer Selection

The total price per container is calculated based on the current exchange rate of the surcharges into the currency of the sea freight. Surcharges that do not apply per container (e.g. document fees) are not included in the total price.

The total per container in the quotation is only an estimate and not binding. The exchange rates valid at the time of invoicing are decisive for the invoice.

Not all products are available for all routings, container types, and cargo types that Hapag-Lloyd generally offers. We are constantly working to expand our offerings and the functionality of the application. If something is still missing, please contact your local sales office to get an offer for your request.

Prices may vary per departure. We take your departure selection into account and offer you prices that cover the period of the chosen departure.

In the "Review & Next Steps" step, you can get your quote and receive the 12-digit quotation number, as well as the quote document with all details from the Price Breakdown and Remarks.

Yes, you can edit your original request, and you can also edit and remove the Additional Services.

Yes, after the “Review & Next Steps” you can get a quote and download your quote to send it via email (to your email or any other email address). Additionally, you can book from there, run a new search, or go to My Quotations.

However, keep in mind that you won't receive a quote for all quotes; some need to be booked directly as they are only valid for a very short time. In this case, you will receive the quote document along with your booking confirmation.

You can always book directly after receiving the offer – we will guide you through the process.

Alternatively, for selected offers (e.g., Quick Quotes), you can book later as well. You will receive a 12-digit quotation number (e.g. W12345678910) at the end, which you can simply include in your booking request.

FAQ - FMC Filing

The FMC applies not just to the US but also to the US territory which includes fourteen US territories; Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Midway Atoll, Palmyra Atoll, Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Wake Island and Navassa Island.

Please reach out to your Sales representative and they will reach out to the IT Support to request a customer relation change.

There could be multiple different reasons:

  • Have you already submitted an LoA for this Shipment/Quotation? If yes, then you are not required to submit another LoA, and therefore the system is disabled.
  • Have you selected the correct customer relation? It is possible, that you have selected NVOCC by mistake and therefore the system does not allow you to upload an LoA. In this case please reach out to your Sales representative.

It depends on the product.

  • For Quick Quotes Spot the LoA is only valid for that specific booking.
  • For Quick Quotes the LoA that was submitted with the first booking is sufficient for the entire quotation.

No. The 48-hour countdown begins once the booking creation is completed and includes weekends and holidays. Therefore the customer must stick to the timeframe. 

It is a mandatory legal requirement that all customers must undergo a verification to confirm their role in their booking. BCOs and NVOCC that have an FMC license number don't need further documentation. All other customers (e.g. Agents acting on behalf of a BCO or NVOCC) are required to verify their customer role. Hapag-Lloyd has chosen the LoA as the most suitable document for the verification.

Yes, we have an LoA template that is available to all customers and located in the application Letter_Of_Authority_Template_FMC.pdf

Exempt commodities which do not require FMC filing not matter if the route is FMC relevant or not:

  • Bulk cargo: Includes raw materials that are shipped in large quantities without being packaged.
  • Forest products: Includes commodities like lumber, logs, and wood pulp.
  • Recycled metal scrap: Includes materials like scrap steel and other recyclable metals.
  • New assembled motor vehicles: Includes new cars and trucks that are factory-assembled.
  • Waste paper or paper waste: Includes recyclable paper and cardboard products. 

A Letter of Authority/Authorization, is a document used in business when a company needs to grant permission to a third party to perform a specific task. In shipping it is required when an NVOCC or Freight Forwarder is acting as an Agent on behalf of another NVOCC. The authorized party is permitted to act on the shipper’s behalf when carrying out tasks like negotiating freight rates or in this case create bookings/quotations. In particular, an LoA is used in scenarios where the original shipper or consignee is asking a different party to make business on his behalf.

FAQs - US Flag Shipments

If you search Start or End location for exports or imports for Baltimore, please select the ‘Your Door’ pick button to show the inland cost on the surcharge details. (This will not change your booking to a door move but is just a system limitation for the current phase of online rates.)
