Vancouver, BC - Local Drayage under Container Trucking Act

The Government of Vancouver, BC has introduced regulatory changes that will impact the Lower Mainland drayage rates. Effective Monday July 1, 2019 the container trucking commissioner has the authority to set rates and fuel surcharges. To achieve this, the Canadian government will repeal the current rates and remuneration provision from the container trucking regulation.

Pursuant to section 22 of the Container Trucking Act, the order includes the introduction of a $25 Position Movement Rate (“PMR”) to be added to all on or off dock trip rate payments as of July 1, 2019 to every paid trip container move.

As such, all container shipments that are trucked to / from the port of Vancouver, BC will incur an additional accessorial charge of $25 per move as of July 1, 2019.

It should be noted, that this has the effect of adding $50.00 to each transport, as the trucker is eligible to be paid for moves prior to container pick up, and after container drop off.

For more information about these changes please navigate to the Transport and Infrastructure page on the BC Government website.
