North America - Hurricane Dorian
We like to provide you with actual information related to current Hurricane "Dorian" and extend our thoughts to our customers, and to all of those who have been and will be impacted by this storm. As Hapag-Lloyd, we hold the safety of our people and cargo operations as our top priority.
Based on recent authorities update No.41, "Dorian" was moving northwestward and growing in size. Dangerous winds and life-threatening storm surge continues on Grand Bahama Island, with maximum sustained winds at 110 MPH and movement northwest / 320 degrees at 2 MPH.
As the situation constantly changes, we would encourage you to view all of the latest details regarding Hurricane Dorian on the National Hurricane Center website.
Regrettably, as a result of foregoing, various ports are affected by this situation; accordingly please find below the current South Atlantic terminal schedules:
MIAMI
South Florida Container Terminal (SFCT) – Closed
PORT EVERGLADES
Florida International Terminal (FIT) – Closed
JACKSONVILLE
TraPac – Closed and scheduled to open on Friday
SAVANNAH
Garden City Terminal (GCT) – Closed and scheduled to open on Thursday
CHARLESTON TERMINALS (WWT and NCT):
Tuesday, September 3: Normal operating hours, 0500-1730.
Wednesday, September 4: Closed.
Thursday, September 5: Closed.
Friday, September 6: Re-opening at 0900 and operating until 1730.
Saturday, September 7: Normal operating hours, 0600-1700.
Sunday, September 8: Open, 0600-1700.
WILMINGTON TERMINAL
Port of Wilmington, NC – Open
Please note: as of Tuesday, no export refrigerated cargo will be received at the container facility at the Port of Wilmington. Based on the forecasted track and the anticipated arrival of tropical storm winds, the port of Wilmington will be closed to commercial activity on Wednesday, September 4.
NORFOLK TERMINALS
Norfolk International (NIT), Virginia International Gateway (VIG) & Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) – Open
INTERMODAL Update:
Norfolk Southern Rail – will close all origin facility gates to Intermodal shipments destined to Charleston and Savannah. The Charleston Intermodal Facility will also cease all operations effective 6:00pm on Sept 3, 2019). Closures are to remain in effect until at least Friday, 6. September 2019
Our Fleet Support Center is in contact with all parties/crews concerned, also providing good advice with the latest meteorological information available. For example, our MV “Bremen Express” left Savannah (Georgia) at a good time and is now sailing around the hurricane in a wide arc to avoid risk of devastating impact on vessel, crew and cargo safety under these extreme weather conditions.
It is important to keep enough distance, as very high waves and dangerous cross sea can occur in the wake of a cyclone.
We currently expect "Dorian" to reach Cape Hatteras (North Carolina) on Friday 6. September 2019. By then at the latest, ships will be able to call at the Port of Savannah (Georgia).
Hapag-Lloyd is monitoring further developments very closely, also keeping our fleet appropriately informed, assessing the situation constantly and we use our best efforts to provide updates as the situation evolves.
