Chicago to Baltimore (via Norfolk Southern Rail) - Transition to on-dock

Chicago to Baltimore (via Norfolk Southern (NS) Rail) will be on-dock effective May 25, 2020. Additional details on NS’s Baltimore transition to on-dock are listed below.

  • Service schedules will be unchanged between Chicago and Baltimore.
  • Currently Eastbound service originates at Landers (7600 S Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60620) and there are no changes in originating location. Please make sure local truckers in Chicago do not bring any ocean boxes bound for Baltimore to 63rd Street starting May 25, 2020.
  • Westbound containers will be grounded at NS’s 63rd Street terminal in Chicago (169 E 63rd St, Chicago, IL 60637), same as today.
  • All NS ocean box moves at Baltimore will use the on-dock terminal. The drayage operation between NS’s Baltimore terminal and the marine terminal (aka “Baltimore Piers”) will cease when the move occurs.
  • This change will make transport more efficient in this lane from Baltimore to/from Chicago because delays due to drays will be eliminated.

In case more information is needed, feel free to contact your local Hapag-Lloyd office.
