Montreal Gateway Terminal (MGT), Canada - Terminal Congestion

Please be advised that as a result of terminal congestion at Montreal Gateway Terminal (MGT) and to ensure safe and efficient vessel and terminal services, the following actions are being implemented by the terminal:

Monday, September 7, 2020

  • Embargo on Toronto bound reefers by rail
  • MGT will no longer accept to receive empties (unless advised by Hapag-Lloyd Equipment Department)
  • Any rail cargo grounded to rail after this date will not be eligible for reroute to truck (requests to change to truck need to be made to Hapag-Lloyd prior to discharging from the vessel and are subject to confirmation)
  • MGT will prioritize loading by dwell time (on a best-efforts basis) and all expedited services will be suspended until further notice
  • Export truck Earliest Receiving Date (ERD) will be amended to three days for dry vans and two days for reefers

Sunday, September 13, 2020

  • Embargo on all Western Canadian bound cargo moving by rail

While we understand these initiatives may cause an inconvenience this necessary course action will help the Montreal Gateway Terminal work to alleviate this congestion.
